How the tarot deck is built

The 78 cards split into the 22 Major Arcana – big life themes from the Fool to the World – and the 56 Minor Arcana, which describe everyday situations. The Minor Arcana have four suits: Wands for energy and ambition, Cups for feelings, Swords for thoughts and conflict, and Pentacles for money, work and the body.

Each suit runs from Ace to Ten and has four court cards – Page, Knight, Queen and King – which often stand for people or ways of acting.

Upright and reversed meanings

Every card page shows the upright meaning, the reversed meaning, what the card says about love and work, and whether it is a yes or no card. Use them alongside a tarot reading or the card of the day.
