What is the Lenormand deck?
The Petit Lenormand is a 36-card fortune-telling deck named after the French card reader Marie Anne Lenormand. Each card shows a simple everyday image – the Rider, the House, the Heart, the Key – and a small playing-card inset in the corner.
Lenormand cards are read more directly than tarot. Each card has a clear meaning, and cards placed next to each other combine into a sentence: Rider + Letter can mean news arriving in writing; Key + Heart a solution in love.
How to read 1, 3 or 5 cards
Draw one card for a quick theme of the day. With three cards, read from left to right like a sentence, with the middle card as the focus. A line of five gives more detail: the centre card is the heart of the matter and the cards on each side describe it.
Frequently asked questions
How many cards are in a Lenormand deck?
36 cards, numbered from 1 (Rider) to 36 (Cross).
Is Lenormand the same as tarot?
No. Lenormand has 36 cards with direct, practical meanings that are read in combinations, while tarot has 78 cards and is more symbolic.
Are Lenormand cards read reversed?
Usually not. The meaning comes from the cards next to each other, so CardSuffly always draws Lenormand cards upright.
